Industry starts with European project EMOLD

Injection moulding will be faster and cheaper

The start of the EMOLD project is a fact: on October 5 and 6 2006 the EU-funded research project started with the official kick off meeting at ASCAMM, Barcelona.

EMOLD proposes a new concept of plastic injection processes in which moulds will pass from being passive elements to become networked active elements with embedded knowledge.

Eight European countries participate in e-mold: Austria, Belgium, Findland, Germany, The Netherlands, Slovenia, Spain and the United Kingdom. Besides the support of the industrial associations in each country there are some SME’s (small and medium enterprises) that will be steering the research of the project. This will assure the results being applicable in the industrial environment.

The EMOLD project is a Collective Research program where RTD performers undertake scientific and technological research activities on behalf of Industrial Associations and their member companies. These appropriate R&D projects are sponsored by the European Union in order to assist companies to improve their competitiveness.

EMOLD main objectives:

ð    Reduction of up to 30% in time required for set-up phase and quality assurance
ð    Reduction of up to 5% in the final cost of plastic parts due to elimination of faulty batches and reduction of reparation requirements
ð    Inprovement in a 25% of the efficiency in moulding processes
ð    More efficient quality procedures and more confidence for the final customer
ð    Possibility to reuse and recycle some still-useful components from these intelligent and mechatronic moulds
